Since September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the hospital put together a music video with some of the kids in the Aflac Cancer Center along with some of the staff. It will be debuting at 8:00pm tonight on YouTube. Check it out. Lyris has on the pink shirt and she is also holding the “BEAUTIFUL” sign. http://youtu.be/dLYeDc3nNzI

Things have been really busy since school started. Lyris started First Grade! Yaaay! She was so excited and in a state of shock when she realized the time had finally arrived for “First Grade”. We told Lyris it was time to take a bath and get ready for bed so she could be ready for school tomorrow. She said “I’m going to school tomorrow?” “I’ll be in first grade tomorrow?!” “Oh my gosh, I’m going to first grade tomorrow!!” Needless to say, she was extremely excited.
Lyris woke up alert and excited. She ate a bowl full of grits and was ready to go to first grade. We arrived at the school a little early since it was the first day. Lyris seemed to be a little anxious, excited and nervous all wrapped together. There were about 5 other parents already waiting with their children when we arrived. As we waited patiently for the school staff to open the doors, more and more parents began to arrive with their children. As soon as they opened the school doors to let everyone in, Lyris vomited. The entire bowl of grits she had eaten earlier was now the “welcome” sign at the schools front door. Once we got her in and settled she had a great day. She was only able to go for the first week and 1 day of the next. We have to be back in the hospital for the next three weeks.
She is still able to continue her schooling while at the hospital. They have teachers and a classroom at the hospital. They are in touch with Lyris teacher to keep her up to date with her lessons.
We hung out at Lake Lanier for Family Day a couple of weekends ago with my husbands Army Reserve Unit. Lyris wasn’t feeling too well, but she did the best she could. She was able to meet a lot of the army people that had been praying for her. She also received a special gift that she absolutely LOVES!! Thanks Bunny Drueke for the wonderful gift. Lyris is asking everyone to sign the quilt. The highlight of the day was when we got caught in the rain. The kids and I loved it!
